Out of the human emotions, love, Is without doubt the most confusing, life changing, mind-blowing and exciting emotion in our collective emotional catalog. I remember when I was 12 years old, my older brother Dave had penned a fantastic song titled “I’m In Love With Love”. Upon hearing it for the first time I immediately became inspired as I had just recently told a girl in my class that I “liked her” and subsequently began my own love affair with this thing called love. I was ultimately utterly rejected and subsequently devastated by my crush but I still remember that feeling. Why me? (my mantra at the time)
What a cool thing this thing called love is! What a hurtful thing this love is! Wait!! I’m confused. What is this thing called love anyway? Looking back from the age 50 now, I really miss that unmistakable tingling feeling that we have each experienced upon the occasion of finding our first “love”. We all have known that feeling, puppy love they call it. Where everything is fuzzy & warm like shelter from a storm. That very special time in our lives when hope abounds without limitation and worries are almost unknown, except of course, the worry of that dreaded rejection. Oh yes, rejection, now that’s a feeling we each remember oh to well, isn’t it? A feeling we each attempt to avoid like the plague even as we age, this fear ages with us and unfortunately we never really escape it’s far-reaching grasp. Think about extrapolating this scenario to how one might feel if their wedding proposal to their one true love was summarily rejected.
I know we don’t talk about these things very much as we age but they are
ever-present and we all reminisce. continued
